Its that horrible time of the year. The time when it starts to rain and the next thing you know its Christmas. Oh, wait. No its not in fact Christmas, instead its the time when calender shops open on high streets across the land (check, excellent business plan!) and we all start to worry profusely about whether we will have enough money to buy Christmas presents for all those who require.

I have an idea. And that idea is centered around two facts:

I am an atypical ‘scrooge’ type character.
We’re in a recession.

Essentially the idea centers around buying for the whole family at one go which will be cheaper and might actually win you brownie points. The Idea is a buying whoever a Christmas Gift Hamper - as shown in the picture above. Add to this the fact that they are generally pretty big, it’s pretty much a given that when you go to open the present (for the rest of your family) that you’ll be extremely excited and it’ll probably be the first you open.

When Esquire launched the best-dressed real man completition earlier this year, we had little idea the furore it would cause. We travelled the country high and low in search of well-dressed chaps, and the results were better than we could have imagined.

We announce the winner and two finalists in this month’s issue - out now - and in celebration we threw a bash earlier this week within the opulent surrounds of Harrods’ menswear department.

Guests glugged decadent rum cocktails courtesy of Appleton and beer was abound, thanks to the generous folks at Peroni Nastro Azzuro. Our shortlist of twelve finalists were joined by the great and good of the fashion industry and members of our esteemed judging panel including tailor Richard James, fashion designer Roland Mouret and head of menswear at Harrods Jason Broderick.

When I look at the choices for “Britain’s Best Dressed Man” in 2010 my heart skipped a beat. In the entirely the right sense. The clothes where excellent and the blokes underneath? Marvelous. It does concern me however that ‘winner’ Ross Hancock - is a tailor by trade (or training?) and I worry that for such a competition, he had an unsettling amount of talent and indeed access to excellent fabrics and advice. Oh, and probably a sewing machine.

In many ways it’s like creating a writing competition for amateur writers and allowing a published author to win. Which in my mind seems a shame. But, in terms of the clothing he wore, his photographed picture was definitely the best choice.

Lets hope he doesn’t go over the top on ‘now’ fashion staples with his prize money and picks out quality, long standing pieces which he can still wear in years to come…

I have to say in this technological day and age the thought of paying nearly $30 for two people to have two games of bowling, should really put me off. But frankly I love bowling and love the feeling when you get a strike or a spare. Unfortunately as you might able to see from the picture that I had to have the barrier up as my other half (who strangely beat me in one of the games) pretends to be not very good.

The honey bee population in Great Britain has suffered a 30% loss in recent years. A loss which has had huge ramifications as these little guys are responsible for pollinating over a third of the food us Brits throw down our gullets every day. So fewer bees in our fields means less food for us and less cash for the Kingdom. In fact, due to their vital role in the agricultural process, honey bees are estimated to be worth around £200million to the British economy.
