True, they also have two football teams and two cathedrals but for many who visit Liverpool, there is only one fab four, The Beatles.

The mop hair lads from Liverpool are still drawing crowds to the city long after they split up and stopped making records together. Visitors arrive daily from all over the world to see where the sixties pop sensations started their lives. Liverpool, it’s fair to say, has made an exerted effort to pay homage to John, Paul, George and Ringo and the fans that make their way to this musical Mecca will not be disappointed in the attractions available.

The Beatles Story

The Albert Docks are the main port of call for many fans; here you will find the magnificent “The Beatles Story” museum. The building on the waterfront provides the complete story of their lives, the music and is full of interesting collections and paraphernalia from the Fab Four. For Beatlemaniacs this attraction alone will provide many hours of entertainment but even those with a casual interest will find it worth a look.

Magical Mystery Tour

There is also the inevitably titled “Magical Mystery Tour”, which takes enthusiasts on a trip around Liverpool calling in on the places that were made famous in the Beatles lyrics and where they grew up. Tourists get to visit Strawberry Fields, drive down Penny Lane and past the houses where the boys grew up.

The Cavern Club

Nightclubs and pubs are a plenty in Liverpool’s lively city centre but for any true Beatles fan there is only one dancehall worth visiting, The Cavern Club. This is the popular nightspot where the group first made a name for themselves and is as much a part of the music legend of Liverpool as anything else. Although the original club has long since been lost, the Cavern Club on Mathew Street is located on the same site and much of the brickwork still remains, although the entrance archway is a reconstruction. Despite this the club still manages to faithfully recreate those heady days of the sixties and the Mersey Beat sound.

Hard Days Night

After spending the day touring the city where better to retire to than the Radisson Blu Hotel in Liverpool city centre. Situated alongside the Albert Docks and the meandering banks of the River Mersey it provides a great base for easy access to the Beatles Story Museum and the city centre.

The Radisson has 194 clean, modern rooms, with spectacular views of the city from its nine stories. The hotel has a first class restaurant, the Filini, which serves up its speciality, traditional Italian menu and the luxurious White Bar where guests can relax and unwind after their day’s adventures.

“Fab Four” fans making their way to Liverpool will find it a city full of Beatles attractions and landmarks. There is plenty to see, do and enjoy, leaving you with lots of lovely memories of a day in your life.

Bigest Movie Flop of the Year

Yahoo has a list of the top 10 movie flops, but “Mars needs Moms” tops the poll.

Starred: Seth Green, Joan Cusack Cost: $150m (£96m) Lost: $110m (£70m)

Mars needs money. This animated adventure-comedy, produced by Hollywood ledge Robert Zemeckis, earned itself the dubious honour of having the 12th worst opening weekend of any film, ever. Considering its biggest actor by some margin was Seth Green, how it cost $150m (£96m) to make is a genuine mystery. One factor could be its descent into the creepy ‘uncanny valley’, whereby the motion-capture and rendering of characters falls into that hinterland of animation that’s a bit too close to looking human. But not quite. Zemeckis’ films ‘The Polar Express’ and ‘Beowulf’ also suffered from this. Whatever, this was a Herculean failure.

Ouch! That’ll put a hole in anyone’s bank account.

Photo

Photo

Find out more about the impact being a foster parent can have on...

Find out more about the impact being a foster parent can have on your family from Fostering People.
